This week, we are proud to share Xavier’s story.
Xavier joined Sendero in our Dallas office in 2025 with experience in the healthcare technology space. He has consulting expertise in organizational design, change adoption, and PMO. Xavier studied psychology and business at Texas A&M University.
What led you to Sendero?
Following undergrad, I worked for a large healthcare software company. While I enjoyed aspects of my role, it was difficult for me to understand and feel personally connected to the company, so I ultimately made the decision to take a chance and seek a change. During my job search, I ended up getting connected with Sendero’s recruiting team. I was immediately drawn to the firm’s size and healthcare footprint, so I moved forward with my application. At that point, I knew the rough, five-month job search was just a stepping stone to something truly special. Throughout Sendero’s interview process, there was a clear intention not only to present an opportunity but to learn about my experience, understand my skill set, and connect me with the company. I appreciated speaking to Sendero team members who were truly invested in me. When the conversation focused on showcasing what I’m capable of versus pitching why I should be hired, I recognized that Sendero was and continues to be a true fit for me.
What stands out to you about Sendero?
The people and the culture are what I value most at Sendero. I appreciate the breadth of expertise not only the firm has as a whole, but on an individual basis as well. Working with team members who are confident in their ability to learn and execute speaks volumes about the culture—we aren’t working through tasks just to keep “busy.” Everyone moves with such intention, and it’s refreshing. Whether I am at a client site or in the office, the presence of other Sendero employees is always pleasant and productive. In terms of expertise, I really resonate with Sendero’s commitment to providing us with opportunities to be exposed to various industries, and I appreciate the firm’s encouragement to further expand our skills at any point and in any direction. This mentality and trust allows me to excel with autonomy and flex other abilities because I get exposure to a variety of experiences in this role.
What has been your favorite part about being a consultant?
My favorite part about being a consultant would have to be the numerous opportunities that present themselves in my day-to-day work. This role has been extremely rewarding because we are typically working on client engagements with a high rate of change, volatility, and room for decision-making. Naturally, we often become a part of pivotal conversations, drive recommendations, and produce significant results, which I value as a consultant.
What industries have you worked in?
My primary experience has been in healthcare IT project management. Beginning my career as a new grad in the healthcare space started off with a steep learning curve but has now transitioned into a true passion of mine. I can confidently say that calling a health system “complex” is an understatement. In healthcare, the learning is continuous, and unique problems and solutions are endless. My favorite part about bringing my previous experience to Sendero has been the opportunity to coach and mentor employees who aren’t familiar with the industry, as I was early in my career. For newer consultants staffed at a healthcare client, it can be challenging to understand how one can contribute to such an intimidating industry when you are engaging with experts who have been working in hospital operations longer than you’ve been alive. I love leveraging my past experiences to teach through these exact intricacies.
Most successful projects are the result of exceptional teamwork. How has your time at Sendero shaped the way you approach being a team member and leader?
Sendero establishes a great foundation to build exceptional teams and leaders through the creation of a culture that guides us to do the right things, in the right way, and the firm is very strategic with project staffing and long-term development. As a result, we can support one another just as much as we are able to support our clients. These ingrained structures, along with being around people who are passionate about growing in their work, keep our teams thriving.
What Sendero resources or programs have had the most impact on your career growth?
Sendero has an eye for consulting operations and empowering employees through its resources and programs. We come in with a variety of interests, professional goals, and knowledge, but Sendero embraces those differences and helps us build on our attributes by providing us with opportunities to position ourselves for success. Early in my career and before Sendero, I discovered that I like to develop and refine skills that help me best support my client and the team behind it. Sendero’s performance management process has made fulfilling that passion of producing results beyond rewarding. At some companies, performance processes can feel restricting, but Sendero’s approach allows employees to be accurately recognized in a way that reflects the full scope of their contributions. Additionally, internal contributions and community volunteer projects provide consultants with opportunities beyond client work to further refine leadership skills and demonstrate professional growth.
What are you looking forward to in the next year, both professionally and personally?
In the next year, I hope to continue to refine and optimize the project management office (PMO) for one of our healthcare clients, as well as develop a well-oiled and scalable Agile process. I am working toward my next key milestone of becoming a manager, so that I am better positioned to support my team members, contribute to high-quality delivery, and realize opportunities that our clients seek. In my personal life, I am looking forward to staying consistent with my health—including exercise and diet—and settling into Dallas with hopes of finding myself a new place!
If you could give one piece of advice to someone interested in becoming a consultant, what would it be?
My top piece of advice for someone interested in being a consultant would be to lead with confidence and to not limit yourself. I truly believe that if it weren’t for Sendero’s recruitment process, I would have never considered applying to a consulting firm. I didn’t think my skills were transferable, and I thought I was too early in my career. Consulting requires a creative mind and the ability to apply yourself and your skills. Regardless of the industry you come from or the degree you have, if consulting feels like the right path for you, take a step back and reflect on your work. Notice the patterns in what you do, the approaches you use to solve problems, and the results you achieved in work you’ve already done. Recognize the reason, logic, and clarity you bring to conversations and decisions—translate that into your resume, apply, and make it happen!
