You may have heard of the term “Corporate Wellness,” but is there any substance behind it? Or just another buzz word to describe a fleeting workplace trend?
According to a 2016 study, 61% of employees agree they’ve made healthier lifestyle choices because of a wellness program at their company. Sendero’s Wellness Committee was created to serve as the champion of Health and Wellness to encourage balance and productivity for Sendero’s people. The committee works to provide opportunities to Sendero’s people to be informed, engaged, and excited about improving wellness for themselves and their community.
Sendero’s Wellness Committee supports four pillars of wellness: Physical, Mental, Emotional, and Social. Below are some ideas on how you can develop a wellness focus within your own organization and promote healthy habits to your employees:
- Host “Lunch and Learns” on topics such as Emotional Intelligence, How to Manage Stress, etc.
- Provide opportunities for employees to socialize outside of work by volunteering at charity events and giving back to the community
- Encourage participation in and increase awareness for campaigns such as Movember and Breast Cancer Awareness Month
- Host a company event, such as a group workout class, or a firm-wide competition, such as a step count challenge
One of the larger activities that our Wellness Committee supports is the Richardson Corporate Challenge, benefiting the Special Olympics of Texas. Since 2016, an average of 100 Sendero employees have participated every year in events like volleyball, badminton, and darts to help bring home the gold. Throughout the eight weeks of the Olympic-style competition, Sendero employees are given many opportunities to participate in athletic and non-athletic events alongside their coworkers, practice team-building, and fund-raise for an important cause.
